Sony to provide PSP Video-on-Demand Download From Sky

Apparently, Sony is going to provide downloads for PSP though not directly. There has been a lot of talks about downloading and doing away with UMD. Certainly, when Sony decide to allow games to be played from memory stick, the direction is clear. They will move towards providing downloading. That seems to be a natural deduction.

Sky has formed a joint venture with Sony to offer video-on-demand and films for the now blossoming Portable PlayStation handheld.

Although the device has been lagging behind Nintendo’s DS in terms of sales, this latest announcement, coupled with the possibility of a PS2/PS3 control adaptor, is seen as a positive step for the device.

Sony and Sky plan to offer both video-on-demand and movie downloads to PSP users in the UK and Ireland – with the aim of making the system the leading video download platform on the market.

Sky has also begun talks with a number of leading content providers keen to offer downloads for Sony’s PSP.

More announcements have been promised at the Leipzig Games Convention, which begins in Germany on August 22.

With this, we have another positive step forward for Sony. By allowing downloadable games, movies and videos, Sony will get ahead of Nintendo. With PSP 2 or PSP Lite and a host of recent announcements, Sony is really hitting hard at competitors. They seemed determined to gain back the lost ground which were once their sweet spot….

With the recents announcements including this one, consumers will stand to benefit from the additional channels that they can choose to purchase their videos and movies.. What’s next? Probably sometime down the line, you may hear them announcing more exciting things… like downloading games… for example.

How To Download Movie To Your PSP?

Do you want to be able to watch your favorite movie on your PSP? Here is a summary of how you can quickly download your favorite movie to your PSP.Firstly, what you need:

A memory stick that is enough to hold your movie
A computer with DVD player
A DVD Ripper software (conversion software)
PSP Vidoe Converter Software (converts to MP4 format)
USB Cable to your PSP.

Now, Items 3 & 4 can be one only. There are many software that can rip movie from DVD and convert to MP4 immediately.Then, here are the steps to do it:

Turn on your computer and then load the movie DVD.
Use the DVD Ripper software to Rip the movie. Usually, you can save into MP4 format right away. Save the file into a folder of your computer.
Connect your PSP to yoru computer. Create a folder (directory) on your memory stick called “MP_ROOT” and from there create a sub-folder called “100MNV01.” and then copy the MP4 file that you have save earlier into this folder.
Disconnect you PSP from your computer and now you can go to the Video and memory stick to watch your movie on your PSP.
